Warsaw Rising Tour - September 2014

Thank you Piotr Sienicki & AB Poland Travel! The tour that you prepared for my brother & I to retrace the steps of our parents during the Warsaw Rising met and exceeded all expectations. We were aware of our parents story, but wanted to know how it fit into the overall Warsaw Rising. Your specialist guide made it an exceptional event, and joining you afterwards for pierogies was great. I would not hesitate to contact AB Poland for more private tours when I return to Poland.

3-hour private Warsaw Uprising tour by car

This tour provides a powerful and insightful journey through the key sites of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, combining the must-see landmarks of the Old Town with an extended visit to one of the most significant contemporary memorials: the Warsaw Uprising Museum (from the outside).

You begin your exploration in the Old Town, where many of the most intense battles took place. You’ll visit the Polish Security Printing Works, which was defended heroically for over a month — the bullet marks still visible on its fence tell the story of fierce resistance. You’ll also see the Church of St. Casimir, which was used as a field hospital, and the site of the brutal fighting at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, which was reduced to ruins during the Uprising.

As you move through the historic center, you’ll pass by the iconic King Sigismund III Vasa Column, destroyed during WWII and later rebuilt, and learn about the Warsaw Arsenal, a crucial stronghold during the battles. Today, it houses the National Museum of Archaeology, but its wartime history is still deeply felt. You’ll also visit the Basilica of the Holy Cross, where massive explosions shook the building, and finish the Old Town section at the Warsaw Uprising Monument at Krasiński Square, where you’ll also see the entrance to a sewer once used by the Insurgents to move between battle zones. You’ll also have a chance to see the nearby “Monument to the Fallen and Murdered in the East” and the “Polegli – Niepokonani” monument, part of the broader remembrance complex.

To complete the tour, you’ll be driven to the Warsaw Uprising Museum — the city’s foremost institution dedicated to preserving the memory of the 1944 Uprising. While the visit includes viewing the museum from the outside, your guide will provide in-depth context about its symbolic architecture, history, and importance.

5-hour private Warsaw Uprising tour by car

This 5-hour tour includes all the key sites of the 3-hour Warsaw Uprising tour and is extended by a visit to the Warsaw Uprising Mound (Kopiec Powstania Warszawskiego) — one of the most symbolic memorials in the city.

Located on the western bank of the Vistula River, the mound was built from the rubble of Warsaw’s destruction and stands as a powerful tribute to the Insurgents. At its peak, you will see the iconic Fighting Poland (Polska Walcząca) symbol, and from the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Warsaw’s skyline — a poignant reminder of the city's wartime history and resilience.

This extended itinerary offers a unique opportunity to connect the central historical sites of the Uprising with a place of deep symbolic significance, all comfortably covered by car.

3-hour Warsaw Uprising private walking tour

You will have a unique chance to walk through the streets of the Old Town where most of the battles of the Warsaw Uprising took place. The Polish Security Printing Works is the place that was defended for over a month and until today the traces of the fights are visible on the fence. You will see a church that served as an insurgent hospital – Church of St. Casimir (Kosciol sw. Kazimierza). Between August 21-27 there were fights for the Cathedral Basilica of Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist which ended with complete destruction of the church. The most alluring object in the Old Town – the King Sigismund III Vasa Column was raised in 1644 to be destroyed three hundred years later by Germans who made an attack on the Old Town. During the Uprising the Arsenal was strategic as it was a west point of protection of the Old Town. Today, there is the National Museum of Archeology in this building and its walls still have some marks of fights. Then you will see the Basilica of the Holy Cross (Bazylika pw. Swietego Krzyza) where on September 6 two ‘goliaths’ were detonated. Due to that, the statue of Christ collapsed and fell from the balustrade of the stairs. Also, you will have a chance to take a look at the Monument of Warsaw Uprising located on the southern side of Krasinski Square. In the vicinity of the Monument, you will see the entrance to a sewer used by insurgents!

A Remarkable and Deeply Moving Journey Through Poland’s History – Expertly Guided & Organized

This was our first time in Poland, planned around the Iron Maiden concert in Warsaw, and we wanted to experience as much WWII history as possible. From start to finish, our journey with AB Poland Travel was unforgettable. Thanks to Magda and Zuzanna’s outstanding coordination, every detail—from hotel bookings to taxi transfers—and daily schedules.

Each guide brought their own expertise and passion. Jurek and Jacek took us through Lublin, Majda nek, and Sobibór, weaving personal stories and deep historical insight into an emotional, humbling day. Wojtek led us to the Wolf’s Lair and Mamerki with an academic’s precision. Paweł brought Warsaw’s history alive, from the Old Town to local hangouts, Warsaw Ghetto sites, and later guided us through Treblinka and the Białowieża forest. Even our long day to Auschwitz-Birkenau and Kraków with Jacek was expertly managed—an intense, meaningful experience.

Behind the scenes, Magda and the office team were incredible—quick to respond, flexible with adjustments, and genuinely committed to making our trip special.
