Treblinka – A Place of Silent Remembrance and Holocaust Tragedy
Located just 1.5 hours from Warsaw, hidden in the forest near the village of Treblinka, lies one of the most harrowing sites of the Holocaust – the Nazi German extermination camp Treblinka II. Operating between 1942 and 1943 as part of Operation Reinhard, it became the site of mass murder of around 900,000 Jews, primarily from the Warsaw Ghetto but also from across Europe, including Germany, Austria, France, the Czech Republic, and the Baltic countries. Unlike concentration camps, Treblinka was designed solely for extermination – victims were sent directly to gas chambers upon arrival.
Today, Treblinka is a place of quiet reflection and powerful symbolism, free from the crowds and commercialization often associated with more famous sites. The original structures were destroyed by the Nazis in an effort to cover up their crimes, but the memorial space is deeply moving. You will see the iconic main monument shaped like a split stone, and 17,000 symbolic stones bearing the names of destroyed Jewish communities. A nearby museum displays models, archival photos, documents, and survivor testimonies, offering meaningful context and historical insight.
▶️ Why visit Treblinka instead of Auschwitz?
While Auschwitz is the most well-known Holocaust site, Treblinka provides an equally impactful experience, with the advantage of being much closer to Warsaw and much easier to access, especially on short notice – no need to book tickets weeks in advance. It offers a more intimate, contemplative atmosphere, ideal for those seeking a deep, emotional encounter with history away from large tourist crowds.
A visit to Treblinka is a powerful educational journey, one that leaves a lasting impression and provides a sobering understanding of the Holocaust. It is also one of the most convenient day trips from Warsaw, suitable even for tight travel schedules.

Powerful Trip
This was an excellent tour. Tour guide/driver was knowledgeable and spoke wonderful English. The tour was informative and profound. This is a very hard tour to guide I am sure, but he did a wonderful job. He was sensitive, knowledgeable, and provided a great deal of insight and context.

Bespoke trip to Treblinka
AB Travel went above and beyond to organise this trip, emailing me personally when others contacted them expressing interest to lay on a special trip to Treblinka which was not advertised. My husband was very happy with the service - from collection at the hotel to drop-off at the airport, it was all great.
The tour itself was incredibly moving and sobering - it is hard to be enthusiastic about such a grim subject but the tour guide certainly di d it justice.
Thanks so much to the team at AB Travel, we really appreciate their help.

Treblinka Tour
The Tour was very interesting. The guide brought us to 2 different places in Warsaw, linked with the Jewish history of the country. The commemorative monuments, the museum (including small documentaries) and the guides’ explanations enabled us to imagine the camp. Our guide was named Jacek. He was great and really nice! He explained a lot of historical facts. He spoke English very good and slowly (it was quite easy to understand and discuss with him). We had a Polish lunch (dumplings) which was good. It worth it! ... [read more]

Treblinka II Extermination Camp
Our guide Jacek arrived at our hotel at the pickup time. He was very chatty and friendly as we drove to Treblinka. Once at the Treblinka site we first looked around the museum and our guide explained the displays, their significance and then organised for us to watch some short films. Jacek waited for us outside, allow my wife and I to take our time and not feel rushed. We then walked to the camp. Jacek was constantly explaining what we were seei ng, marked by various stones or displays. We felt that having Jacek describe, highlight the horrors that occurred at Treblinka helped to make our visit extra special, going above and beyond to make sure we had a great trip. On the way back we stopped at the restaurant for lunch which was delicious. Strongly recommend. ... [read more]

Some things must be seen
Booked a solo tour with AB Poland to visit Treblinka, but also included an airport drop-off. The tour, led by Jacek, was fantastic and very moving. His knowledge of the surrounding area, and Poland in general, is astounding. Saw many things I didn't expect and learned a lot. The portion of the tour through Treblinka was something all people should experience just to see and gain a greater understanding of the depths of evil that can be found in t he human soul. At the same time, hearing the survivors' stories was a haunting experience. The tour was very well arranged from start to finish. I had an early afternoon flight, so the tour was tailored accordingly. There were several places we saw once back in Warsaw which were also very interesting. Jacek was a great guide, very engaging, friendly, and well-read. Had a delicious local lunch and discussed many interesting topics including current events and the Polish perspective.
Very glad to have taken this tour. Looking forward to touring with AB Poland again soon.
