Stutthof – The First Nazi Concentration Camp Outside Germany
Located near the Baltic coast, just outside the city of Gdańsk, Stutthof was the first Nazi concentration camp established outside the borders of pre-war Germany. Operational from 1939 to 1945, it was initially used to imprison Polish intelligentsia and resistance members, but later became part of the wider Nazi system of terror and genocide. Over 110,000 people from 28 countries were deported to Stutthof — including Jews, Poles, and prisoners of war — and more than 65,000 were murdered through forced labor, starvation, executions, and gas chambers.
Today, the Stutthof Museum and Memorial Site preserves original camp structures including the crematorium, gas chamber, guard towers, prisoner barracks, and personal belongings of victims. Walking through the site, visitors gain a sobering and deeply emotional understanding of life and death in a Nazi concentration camp. Educational exhibitions and documentaries further explain the camp’s function within the Holocaust and Nazi occupation of Poland.

A Remarkable and Deeply Moving Journey Through Poland’s History – Expertly Guided & Organized
This was our first time in Poland, planned around the Iron Maiden concert in Warsaw, and we wanted to experience as much WWII history as possible. From start to finish, our journey with AB Poland Travel was unforgettable. Thanks to Magda and Zuzanna’s outstanding coordination, every detail—from hotel bookings to taxi transfers—and daily schedules.
Each guide brought their own expertise and passion. Jurek and Jacek took us through Lublin, Majda nek, and Sobibór, weaving personal stories and deep historical insight into an emotional, humbling day. Wojtek led us to the Wolf’s Lair and Mamerki with an academic’s precision. Paweł brought Warsaw’s history alive, from the Old Town to local hangouts, Warsaw Ghetto sites, and later guided us through Treblinka and the Białowieża forest. Even our long day to Auschwitz-Birkenau and Kraków with Jacek was expertly managed—an intense, meaningful experience.
Behind the scenes, Magda and the office team were incredible—quick to respond, flexible with adjustments, and genuinely committed to making our trip special. ... [read more]
