Find your roots – genealogy tour in Poland
Discover the people, records and places behind your Polish family history. Our genealogists and local researchers examine archival documents, parish and civil registers, cemetery records, historical addresses and other available sources. We may help you locate ancestral homes and burial places, learn more about the lives of your relatives or search for family members still living in Poland. You can commission the research as a standalone service. If the findings inspire you to see the discovered places in person, we can also design a private heritage tour in Poland—but travelling is always optional.
Info
Did you know that more than 20 million people of Polish descent live outside Poland, including over 10 million in the United States alone? Many would love to learn more about their Polish roots, uncover their family’s story and discover where their ancestors once lived.
Do you have Polish roots? Would you like to discover who your ancestors were, where and how they lived, or what happened to them? Are you searching for their birthplaces, former homes or burial sites? Perhaps you would also like to find relatives who may still be living in Poland.
Our genealogists, historians and local researchers investigate each family story individually. They conduct in-depth research in archives, parish registers, civil records, historical documents, cemetery records and other available sources. We do our utmost to identify your ancestors, locate places connected with your family and find any surviving relatives.
Once the research is complete, you may also choose to visit Poland and explore these places in person. This is entirely optional. If you decide to travel, our specialists can arrange a customized private heritage tour based on the research findings. It may include visits to ancestral towns and villages, former family homes, churches, cemeteries and archives—as well as meetings with living relatives, whenever possible.

At AB Poland Travel, we combine professional genealogical research with our experience as a Poland-based tour operator. This allows us to assist you throughout the entire process – from the first examination of your family documents, through detailed archival and on-site research, to a fully personalized heritage journey across Poland.
Our genealogy service is divided into several stages, giving you complete flexibility. After each stage, you decide whether you would like to continue. There is no obligation to proceed to the next step.
Total price: 200 EUR
Every family story begins with what you already know.
Before starting the research, we ask you to send us as much information as possible. This may include family documents, certificates, names and surnames, dates and places of birth or marriage, old photographs, letters, family trees, immigration records, addresses, or even family stories passed down through generations.
We will also ask you to tell us what you hope to discover. Perhaps you are looking for living relatives in Poland, the grave of an ancestor, a family home, additional documents, or simply want to learn more about your family's history.
Our genealogist will then conduct initial research, analyzing the information provided and assessing the realistic possibilities for further investigation. We will identify potentially relevant archives and sources and evaluate the likelihood of finding additional information.
The Preliminary Research is paid in advance.
Once completed, you will receive a summary of our findings, recommendations for the next steps, and an estimated scope and cost of further research.
You can then decide whether you would like us to continue.
Price: 100EUR per hour of research
If the preliminary research indicates that further investigation is worthwhile, our genealogist can continue with more detailed research.
Depending on your family's history, number of documents you have and your expectations of the outcome. this may involve examining archival records, historical databases, civil and religious records, immigration information, cemetery records, historical addresses, and other available sources. Most of the sources is available online and some of them require paid access to the databases. Our researcher has it all, there is no extra cost.
Detailed genealogical research is charged according to the amount of work required, 100EUR per hour, with a minimum order of 100 EUR.
Following Stage 1, we will normally be able to estimate the amount of research that may be necessary. For example, if we expect the next stage to require approximately 2–3 hours, the estimated cost would be around 200–300EUR.
You remain in control of the process. You can start with a limited amount of research and decide later whether you would like us to continue.
Sometimes the answers cannot be found online or from behind a desk.
When necessary, our team can travel to specific places in Poland to continue the investigation in person. Depending on the case, we may visit local archives, cemeteries, churches, former family addresses, villages, towns, or other locations connected with your ancestors.
We can verify locations, search for graves and addresses, make local enquiries where appropriate, and prepare photographic documentation.
The results are then sent to you so you can decide what comes next.
For some clients, receiving the information and photographs is enough. Others decide that they want to come to Poland and stand in those places themselves.
That is when we can move on to the most personal part of the experience.
Once the research has identified the places connected with your family, we can transform those discoveries into a fully customized journey through Poland.
There is no standard itinerary because every family's story is different.
Your private heritage tour may include visits to ancestral towns and villages, former family homes, cemeteries, synagogues, churches, archives, museums, and other places uncovered during the research.
As an experienced incoming tour operator, we can also organize the complete trip around your family history, including private transportation, hotels, professional local guides, airport transfers and additional sightseeing throughout Poland.
Your journey does not have to focus exclusively on genealogy. We can combine your heritage experience with Poland's highlights and special activities, such as Warsaw, Krakow, Gdańsk or Wrocław sightseeing, food tours and tastings, Chopin concerts, scenic flights and other unique experiences.
Where available and appropriate, our genealogist may also accompany you during selected parts of your heritage journey, providing additional historical and genealogical context.
Every heritage tour is individually designed and priced. The final cost depends on the travel dates, number of participants, itinerary, transportation requirements, hotel standard, guides, attractions and other services selected.
Our genealogical research is supported by a specialist with more than 25 years of experience in the field.
His expertise includes Polish history, Jewish heritage and genealogy, Polish migration and emigration throughout different historical periods, and the complex archival sources needed to reconstruct family histories in a country whose borders, administrative divisions and populations have changed dramatically over the centuries.
He works with a wide range of archival resources, including specialist and paid databases and sources.
At the same time, not every search requires specialist archival work. Part of the research and preparation is also carried out in-house by our AB Poland Travel team, allowing us to combine genealogical expertise with local knowledge and practical travel planning.
Over the years, we have had the privilege of helping travelers uncover extraordinary pieces of their family histories.
We have helped guests find living relatives in Poland whom they did not even know existed.
We assisted in creating an extraordinary family tree approximately 17 metres long and one metre high, bringing generations of family history together in one remarkable record.
We have located graves of close family members, allowing our guests to visit them for the first time in their lives.
And we have helped travelers turn names, dates and old documents into real places they could finally see and experience for themselves.
Every search is different, and genealogical research can never guarantee a particular result. But sometimes even one newly discovered document, address, photograph, grave or family connection can completely transform what you know about your family's past.
You do not need to have a complete family tree to begin. A few names, dates, photographs or old documents may be enough to provide the first clues.
Start with our Preliminary research, and we will assess what may be possible.
You decide how far you want to go. After every stage, you can continue the research, plan your journey to Poland, or simply stop there. There is never an obligation to purchase the next stage.
Your family's Polish story may be closer than you think.

The geneology tour was wonderful. We were able to speak to the parish priest, who graciously looked up information. Although we did not find direct relatives, Margaret had located a distant cousin and we were able to meet her and her family. Margaret was a professional and a pleasure to work with. She provided us with a historical context to better understand how our ancestors lived, the reasons they may have immigrated. She also provided a soc io-economic picture of Poland that was very helpful. ... [read more]

My highest praise for AB Poland which connected us with a woman who co-owns a grocery and meat market in Somianka, and then with her old high school history teacher from Wyszkow who offered to take us to the monument with my great great grandfather’s matzevah and to research my grandmother’s birth certificate. What an extraordinary day for me and my family!
Thank you and AB Poland for making our once-in-a-lifetime Eastern European trip so memorable!
