While in Poland, do not miss your chance to visit Wadowice. This picturesque town is located just 50 kilometers from Krakow and is one of the most popular Polish destinations. It is not just because of its historical and architectural heritage, but due to the fact that one of the most famous Poles of the last century, Karol Wojtyla, later known as Pope John Paul II, was born here on May 18, 1920. He became the first Slavic pope in history and the first pope from outside Italy in 455 years. In Wadowice, you can visit Karol Wojtyla’s family home, later converted into a museum. After sightseeing make sure to taste “kremowka”, the favorite cake of young Karol.
